The Utility Research Lab is an interdisciplinary group within the ATLAS Institute and Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. We invent and investigate digital fabrication technology, tools, and techniques to advance science and engineering while positively impacting people, society, and the environment. Through the development of hardware, software and materials, we empower people to create with purpose.

📢 We are looking for highly motivated students to work with us!
For more information, see the Opportunities page.

Recent Work

In addition to developing hardware, software, and materials for digital fabrication, we explore their potential uses in the world around us. This can take on many forms including interactive systems (sensors, actuators, and displays). Our results are typically published in Human-Computer Interaction venues such as ACM CHI, UIST, IMWUT and DIS.
